More Than Just Flying Cars: Why Rohit Shetty is My Favorite Person
If you hear the sound of a Mahindra Scorpio drifting at 100 km/h, or if you see a hero getting out of a moving car while wearing aviator sunglasses, you know exactly whose world you are in.
Welcome to the Rohit Shetty Universe.
Many people call him a director. Some call him the "Action King." But for me, Rohit Shetty is more than just a filmmaker. He is my favorite person because he represents something we all secretly love: Unapologetic Entertainment.
While critics might look for logic, Rohit Shetty looks for magic. Here is why I admire the man behind the madness.
1. The Ultimate Underdog Story
We see the success today—the 100-crore clubs, the blockbusters, the fame. But the reason I respect him is his struggle.
Rohit Shetty didn't start at the top. He is the son of the legendary stuntman M.B. Shetty, but he didn't use that as a shortcut. He started his career at age 17 as an assistant director. He has done it all—from ironing actresses' sarees to being a spot boy to managing crowds.
He knows the smell of the set. He knows the sweat of the crew. That’s why, even today, he is known as one of the most humble guys in the industry. He hasn't forgotten where he came from.
2. He Made "Masala" Cool Again
For a while, Bollywood was trying too hard to be Hollywood. Everyone wanted to make dark, serious, intellectual movies.
Then came Rohit Shetty. He said, "No. I want to make movies for the family."
He brought back the colorful, loud, larger-than-life cinema that we grew up watching. whether it’s the laugh-out-loud confusion of Golmaal or the high-octane action of Singham, he makes movies for the common man. He doesn't make films for awards; he makes them for the audience whistling in the single-screen theaters.
3. The Visionary Behind the "Cop Universe"
We always talk about the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) or DC. But who had the guts to try that in India?
Rohit Shetty.
He built the Cop Universe—starting with Singham, bringing in Simmba, and then Sooryavanshi. Seeing Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh, and Akshay Kumar in one frame was a dream come true for Indian fans. It takes a massive vision (and a lot of confidence) to pull off a crossover like that.
4. A Master of "Old School" Action
In an era of CGI and Green Screens, Rohit Shetty is old school.
Real Cars: If a car blows up in his movie, it’s a real car.
Real Stunts: He respects the stuntmen because he grew up among them.
There is a raw energy in his action sequences that computers just can't replicate. As an audience member, you can feel the impact of the crash. It’s visceral, and it’s awesome.
5. The "Khatron Ke Khiladi" Factor
Watching him host Khatron Ke Khiladi showed us his real personality. He is a strict mentor, but he is also incredibly funny and supportive. He pushes contestants to face their fears, often doing the stunts himself first to show them it’s possible.
That attitude—"Face your fear"—is inspiring. It shows that he lives by the adrenaline he sells on screen.
My Takeaway
Rohit Shetty teaches us a simple lesson: Be the best at what YOU do.
He doesn't try to make artistic tragedies. He knows he is an entertainer, and he embraces it 100%. In a world where everyone is trying to pretend to be someone else, Rohit Shetty is happily, loudly, and proudly himself. And that is why he will always be my favorite.
